One easy way to identify your cyberstalker is through IP Addresses
Do you have a personal website or a MySpace? Here is an easy way to track your cyberstalker:
1. Add a few line of codes to your personal website or MySpace using a tracker such as HitsLink.com. If that doesn’t work for you, do a quick search on Trackers specific to your type of web page. These websites will allow you to track a person’s IP address everytime they visit your page.
Unfortunately Facebook does not provide a way to track visitors, and so it may be best to stay away from control freaks like Zuckerberg.
2. Note the next time and date that the person sent you a harassing message (Example, Monday, March 3, 2008 at 6:30pm).
3. Log into your tracker account (make sure you do this within the same time frame, otherwise some information may expire). Match up the date and time recorded from the tracker, to the exact time and date that the cyberstalker sent you the message. If its a few seconds or minutes off, that may be acceptable because usually cyberstalkers will visit often, so it will be easy to tell that they are obssessed, crazy, or have nothing else better to do really other than looking you up.
4. Continue to monitor that IP address (Or several IP addresses) in your tracker and keep records of it. Print out the tracker information, or make a screen shot of your tracker account while logged in (This will help to keep your evidence looking as authentic as possible when you have to report it to law enforcement). On a PC, to create a screen shot, follow these directions. On a MAC, hold down these keys at the same time: SHIFT+APPLE+3
5. Look up the IP address using whatismyipaddress.com. When you arrive at the this site, it will show you your IP address, copy and paste the IP address that you have noted into the input field on the website to search for it and see what the location is. Often times, it will be a home/residential address. If it’s a public one, there may be small hints on how you can figure out if it’s from a university (usually it will show the name of the college) or a library. If it’s coming from an area close to you, most likely it will be someone who is within very close proximity to you and you better be careful when you go out alone.
6. Let the cyberstalker know that you have idenfitied their IP address and will take further action if they don’t stop harrassing you.
